What is a scanner cash register?

A scanner cash register is a tablet-based cash register system that is supported by a barcode scanner. Similar to the standard cash registers you already know from retail, the tablet-based cash register systems can also be equipped with a barcode scanner. Tablet POS systems are basically a modern version of standard cash registers with many extras. They are slimmer, more handy, flexible to use, and thanks to the digital user interface, you have many more options at your disposal.

The Scanner Checkout System - LocaFox Edition

With LocaFox, you are provided with an Android-based tablet. The LocaFox software is installed on this tablet, which later serves as your cash register. In addition to the tablet, the basic equipment of the POS system also includes a receipt printer and a cash drawer from ANKER. If desired, you can expand your POS system with additional accessories: In addition to choosing from two different barcode scanner models, you can also opt for a label printer, a customer display, various tablet holders and much more. Of course, we are also available to advise you on the choice of a suitable card terminal. Thus, you have the same options as with a stationary cash register, which, however, is more space-saving and well suited for smaller sales areas. If you need several cash registers for your store, they can also be linked together.

Functionality and field of application of the touch POS system

Basically, it can be said that tablet-based POS systems give retailers many more options than standard cash registers. Especially when using a handy barcode scanner, tablet cash registers are in no way inferior to standard cash registers. They make work easier and speed up the payment process enormously. Tablet cash registers score particularly well when it comes to creating and managing products, backing up data, providing statistics and analyses of business figures, and linking other systems and online stores to the cash register system.

When working with a barcode scanner, it is important that the GTIN/EAN is stored in the master data maintenance. Each item has a unique SKU number so that there are no duplicates in the system.

What is a SKU?

The Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) is the individual registration number of a product stored in the company's system. It is one of the essential elements for controlling and managing the stock.

Application at LocaFox:

If you want to create a new product in LocaFox Backoffice, entering the SKU number is a mandatory field to be able to clearly distinguish the individual products. The SKU number is automatically created by the system to avoid duplicates. However, you have the possibility to edit the SKU number to keep your own item list.

What is an EAN number?

EAN number stands for European Article Number. The EAN numbers are unique worldwide and come from GS1, a network that develops, negotiates and maintains standards for cross-company processes worldwide. The EAN barcode is used for product identification in retail and is used in many other industries. There are 2 variants: One is a 13-digit bar code, which is considered standard, and the other is an 8-digit bar code, which is used for micro products. The EAN barcode is used worldwide and is mainly used for reading at cash registers in retail. Underneath the barcode, there is usually the identification number in plain text as a backup, in case the barcode is not readable. EAN codes (with barcodes) are used in stationary trade as well as in online trade. What is the EAN code called today? The term European Article Number is used today only as the acronym EAN and refers to the bar code from the EAN. In the past, EAN was also used to refer to the globally unique article number it contains, which was renamed Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) in 2009.

What is a GTIN code?

The Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) is an identification number originating from the GS1 system (formerly EAN system) that can be used to label trade units. GTIN is the current name for the European Article Number (EAN), which was in use until 2005. A GTIN can be an eight-, twelve-, thirteen- or fourteen-digit string of numbers.

Application EAN/GTIN at LocaFox:

When creating products, you have the option of storing the GTIN/EAN number in the master data maintenance area. This has the advantage that you are then able to work with a hand scanner. If the GTIN/EAN is stored, the products to be sold can be easily scanned by barcode scanner and placed in the shopping cart. This saves a lot of time and work during checkout. A barcode scanner is especially worthwhile for stores that carry many items and customers have many products in their shopping cart.
