Self-Checkout Cash Registers for Farm Shops - How SCO Cash Registers Work in Practice

More than 17 million Germans buy their food directly from the producer. Farm stores like the one run by the Breil family from the municipality of Raesfeld in the district of Borken are particularly popular. Here, customers can find potatoes grown on the farm and freshly baked brown bread, as well as more than 150 other products from the region. The goods are sold via self-checkout. Why the SCO checkout was the right choice for the farm store, what are the advantages of a SCO checkout for the customers and why the solution is ideal especially for more remote sales stands? We asked the Breil couple personally during our visit.

Honest. Down-to-earth. Close to home. Not the worst character traits if you want to run a farm . Character traits that also apply to the Breil family from Raesfeld, whose ancestors have been rooted here for six generations. Today, Markus and Bettina Breil grow potatoes on more than seven hectares of arable land - entirely without chemicals or the use of pesticides. A few cattle graze in a pasture next door, which the family has processed into hearty sausage and meat products through a local butcher. "We focus on regionality and short supply chains," emphasizes farmer Markus Breil. "This is also appreciated by our customers, who come to our farm store from the surrounding area, but also from the Ruhr region."

Sunday is a day of rest, right?

Quality just gets around. The problem: Suddenly, there were also customers at the door on Sundays who wanted to buy fresh potatoes or eggs. "We are on the road six days a week and are very passionate about what we do," emphasizes Bettina Breil. "All that takes energy and we like to enjoy some free time on Sunday." Understandable. But you don't want to turn away loyal customers on Sunday either. The solution: a self-checkout system for farm stores that makes it easy for customers to pay for their purchases themselves - by card or digitally.

SCO cash registers for farm stores: more time and lower costs.

"We have thought about hiring sales staff from time to time," Markus Breil recalls. "But at the moment, that would hardly pay off." It quickly became clear that a self-service checkout was the more cost-efficient and also more convenient solution. This is because modern SCO checkouts combine many advantages in one system. The system can be installed and put into operation within a very short time. Operation via the digital display is self-explanatory and once products have been sold, they are transferred directly to the receipt journal. The system itself also makes quite an impression visually. "The SCO cash register from LocaFox is a noticeable relief for our operation," explains Markus Breil. "But what particularly convinces me is the fast and competent service provided by the LocaFox team. If there is a question or a problem, someone is immediately on hand and the sale can continue smoothly. This is exactly the solution we were looking for."

Self-service checkouts for farm stores are very much in vogue

Advantages that other farm stores have also discovered for themselves. After all, anyone who has a farm or works as a farmer often runs the farm store on the side. Accordingly, the sale of goods should be organized in an uncomplicated and cost-effective manner. "With the SCO checkout, we can concentrate on our core business and also have more time for personal contact and advice for walk-in customers," says Bettina Breil. "So self-checkout checkouts don't prevent direct interaction with customers, they actually promote it."
